Mozambique Island is 3km from the mainland and one Mozambique’s most fascinating destinations. Discovered in 1498 by Vasco de Gama, it was an important centre for the construction of boats in the 15th century.
Inhambane is one of Mozambique’s oldest cities. Long before the Portuguese oppression it served as a port for dhows, the open sail boats that cruise the length of the coast.
Inhaca Island lies approximately 40km east of Maputo. It is an important marine research centre and further parts of the island and the surrounding waters are also soon to be declared nature reserves.
Maputo is one of Africa’s most attractive capital cities. The city is situated atop a cliff and looks out over Maputo Bay. After decades of colonial oppression and war, Maputo is now a vibrant, colourful city boasting interesting markets, intriguing architecture and a diverse nightlife.
Best Time to Visit: May to November. This is when rain and temperatures are at their lowest.
Language: Portuguese is the official language however the majority of the population speak a Bantu dialect.

Entry requirements: A visa is required for entry into Mozambique, although a one-entry visa can normally be obtained upon entry at customs. Check with your Mozambican embassy for the latest guidelines and information.
Malaria Advice: It is recommended that one take an anti-malaria prophylactic when visiting the country as it is present all over
Tipping: Tipping in Mozambique is not customary, although in tourist areas a tip of 10% is expected.
