Best Time to Visit: September to April.  The temperature is between 21 – 32 Degrees Celsius, the days are long and sunny and there is little rain.

Language:  There are 11 official languages in South Africa.  However, English is understood across the country as it is the primary language of business, politics and the media.

Currency: The currency in South Africa is the Rand (ZAR).  To check the exchange rate with your home currency click here.

Please note the following:

  • Only single entry visas can be obtained from an embassy. Multiple entry visas must be applied for at the Department of Home Affairs on arrival.

Malaria Advice: It is recommended that one take an anti-malaria prophylactic if visiting north-eastern Mpumalanga (Kruger National Park) and Kwa-Zulu Natal (Wildlife Reserves in Zululand).

Tipping: Tipping is customary in South Africa. A guideline for visitors is the following: Porters R10 per item, taxis 10%, waiters and waitresses in restaurants 10-15%.
