Addo Elephant Park

Discover, experience and explore a world of diversity in one park! Addo Elephant National Park, an hour by road from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, is rated as one of the best places in Africa for close encounters with elephant. It is one of the most diverse reserves on earth encompassing several ecosystems, and boasts the BIG 5 - elephants, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard.

Addo Elephant National Park is the third largest national park in South Africa. Just 75 years after its proclamation to protect the 11 elephants that remained in the area, the Addo Elephant National Park is now a world-famous mega park offering a wealth of wildlife to be seen by visitors. Elephant numbers have swelled to over 450, one of the densest elephant populations in southern Africa.

With great white sharks and southern right whales in the marine section of the park, Addo is one of the few reserves in the world that has the ‘Big 7’! The marine section of the park includes the world’s largest breeding colony of Cape Gannets on Bird Island, Mandela Bay, and the second largest colony of African penguins.
