African Travel Concept

Soweto is the most metropolitan township in the country - setting trends in politics, fashion, music, dance and language. It is South Africa’s largest township and is located on the outskirts of Johannesburg. Known worldwide for its role in the struggle for democracy, Soweto is a hub of ultra-modern life depicted by luxury cars, large mansions and ever expanding boundaries starkly contrasted by poor areas where primitive life is found, livestock graze along the roads and ancient African traditions are still practiced.

It is a city of enterprise and cultural interaction; a popular tourist destination with interesting sites worth a visit including Kliptown (where the Freedom Charter was drawn up), the home of former President Nelson Mandela on Vilakazi Street, the Hector Petersen Memorial site, the Regina Mundi Church and a variety of African cuisine restaurants.

Music forms a central part of the Soweto experience: marabi, kwaito, funk and blues provide entertainment on the ultra-stylish dance floors of this mega-party town. Jazz has been at the heart of Soweto since the 1960s, with performances taking place in local community halls and ‘Shebeens’. This is an experience unlike any other and is guaranteed to keep visitors entertained.
