Madikwe Game Reserve

Madikwe Game Reserve, one of South Africa’s foremost Big 5 malaria-free reserves, is located on the Botswana border in the North West Province, and is a unique story of conservation.

Transformed from a number of low income cattle farms to a prosperous conservation area, Madikwe was developed by economists due to the fact that a game reserve would generate more jobs and income than any other land use option. Madikwe is a model of how conservation can benefit local communities. High numbers of women in particular are empowered by employment in the Reserve.

Madikwe is known as one of the best places to see the Big 5 in Southern Africa, complimented by easy sightings of springbok, hyena, wild dogs, cheetah, a variety of antelope and bird life.

There is a special sense of pride felt from the local people you encounter in and around the Reserve, making it a unique experience with animal viewing and cultural interaction.
