Knysna Forest trails gain Green Flag status

Posted on Friday, 22nd May 2015

Two hiking trails in the Knysna forest have been awarded Green Flag Status.

The trails are part of the Garden Route National Park (GRNP). The two trails are the Perdekop Nature Walk and the Diepwalle’s Olifants Hiking Trail.

On May 14, both trails were accredited by the Hiking Organisation of Southern Africa (HOSA). HOSA aims to create a sustainable and lucrative hiking industry in Southern Africa.

Green Flag Status is the benchmark national standard for parks and recreational areas. Sites for Green Flag Status are judged on particular criteria, including whether a place is welcoming, healthy, safe and secure, clean and well maintained and has a focus on conservation and heritage and community involvement.
