Top Victoria Falls experiences

Posted on Monday, 08th Jun 2015

Victoria Falls, also known as ‘the Smoke that Thunders’, is a waterfall in Southern Africa on the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. Named one of the seven natural wonders of the world, despite being neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, it is classified as the largest, based on its width of 1708 metres and height of 108 metres, resulting in the largest sheet of falling water in the world. It truly is an awe-inspiring natural wonder, but there are many other exciting experiences to be had around the waterfall. Here are some of ATC Elite’s favourites:

Take a sunset cruise
There are few experiences that are quite as breathtaking and beautiful as a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. As the sun dips below the horizon, numerous animals approach the river for some evening refreshment. From the safety of the boat, equipped with sundowners in hand, you can unwind and absorb the unforgettable energy of the Zambezi river.

Learn from the past
If you are interested in the background of this famous World Heritage Site then you can join a professional tour guide delving into the history and geography of the region. Alternatively, you can go on a tour of the nearby Chidobe and Monde villages and learn about the traditions and way of life of the local people.

Adrenalin escape
For those looking to get the heart racing, with Victoria Falls as the spectacular backdrop, there is the Big Air Experience. Included in this experience is the Bridge Slide (zipline) crossing over the Batoka Gorge, the Bridge Swing arcing you over the Zambezi rapids and the iconic 111m adrenalin-packed Bungee Jump. You can choose to do one, or get a deal on all three!

Meet Africa’s gentle giants
A chance to see African elephants is just a short (approx. 25 min) drive away from Victoria Falls to Elephant Wallow. You get to meet and interact with these gentle giants under professional supervision, after which you can go on an elephant-back safari. If you are looking for some incredible insight into these wise creatures (with meal included), then this is the experience for you.

Venture into the wild
The Chobe National Park is renowned for its stunning abundance of wildlife, and it’s only a one-hour drive from Victoria Falls. The tours include a game drive or a boat cruise (and a lunch option). Famous for one of the largest concentrations of game in Africa, you are bound to see some curious creatures.

Keep in mind that some of these activities require you to cross borders, so a passport will be needed. Victoria Falls is an invaluable and almost overwhelming adventure that we hope you are planning to experience for yourself!
