For those who enjoy slow majestic journeys through some of the most beautiful landscape in the world, a trip onboard the Rovos Rail would suite you perfectly. The Rovos Rail was established in 1989 by the Vos family, and today is labelled as the most luxurious train in the world!

The Rovos Rail is based at Capital Park Station, which is located in Pretoria. It is an old locomotive shed that has been extensively refurbished to accommodate the Rovos Rail. It is also the only private rail station in South Africa, incorporating a railway museum.

The luxurious Rovos Rail is comprised of restored South African coaches with two lounges, two restaurant cars, private sleeping compartments and an observation car located at the rear of the train for viewing the journey that the train has already covered. The train has three different types of accommodation on board, with the smallest being the Pullman suite (76 square feet) and the largest being the Royal Suite which is half a train car long (172 square feet). No matter what type of accommodation you choose from, all have an en-suite shower, toilet and sink.

The Rovos Rail offers many exciting and majestic journeys through Southern Africa, with the trip from Cape Town to Pretoria being of the more popular and shorter trips available. One of the more favoured trips is the 6-day Adventure from Cape Town to the Victoria Falls, where guests will travel through the scenic Cape Winelands, the Great Karoo, Matjiesfontein and the Tropic of Capricorn – with stops in Kimberley to view the Diamond Museum and Pretoria for an overnight stay. Every two years the train makes the famous trek from Cape Town to Cairo travelling the majority of the African continent.

As the Rovos Rail is one of pure luxury and class, guests are reminded that smart casual wear is required during the day and formal attire recommended for the evenings. As Rovos Rail wants to maintain the spirit of travel of a bygone era, there are no radios or television sets onboard and mobile devices and laptops and restricted to the privacy of your suite.

Journeys onboard the Rovos Rail is truly magnificent and African Travel Concept would recommend it to anybody who is seeking a luxurious and majestic journey through South Africa.
